Sir Alexander Fleming

Sir Fleming was a British bacteriologist and the discoverer of Penicillin. Fleming observed a mould growing on one of his bacterial cultures and found out that this mould was killing or preventing the growth of the bacteria. The substance produced by this mould Penicillium notatum was called penicillin. But it took ten more years for Howard Florey and Ernst Chain to isolate penicillin. All three shared the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1945. Sir Fleming was also the discoverer of lysozyme which is found in human tears.

He can be described as one of the first modern scientist who combined both theory and practical work to aid his scientific research. He is credited with many discoveries in the fields of astronomy, physics and mathematics. He initially started studying medicine when he discovered the law of pendulum. He also put forward the law of falling bodies. He was one of the first astronomer to use telescope and he invented far better ones than those existed. He also believed in the Copernicus theory that sun was at the centre of the universe and that the earth revolved around it whereas the church believed that the Earth was at the centre of the universe. This got him into a lot of trouble but he stood by his decision. He spent his remaining years making discoveries.

Robert Fulton

Robert Fulton was and American inventor and engineer. He started making clever tools for his friends and family at a very young age. As a young man he took up painting but later gave it up since he was very interested in mechanical things. He built the first successful steamboat which used to ferry passengers in the Hudson River. He also built experimental submarines and underwater weapons. He also designed a rope-making and stone-cutting machine. He was also an accomplished portrait and landscape painter.

An adder is a reptile that belongs to the family of vipers. Its body is fat and short with a short tail. The colour of its skin is in varying shades of brown with beautiful designs on its back. The colour of the female’s skin is reddish. It is a mild poisonous snake which can prove dangerous for small animals but very rarely to human beings. Their diet consists of rats, lizards and shrews. They can be found in Europe and Asia and they also migrate during the winter season.

An aardwolf belongs to the family of wild dog like animals called hyenas. The ears are nigger and its jaws are weaker than that of hyenas. The animal derives its name from the African language and it means ‘earth wolf’ and are found between eastern and southern Africa. They eat termites, rats, Birds and their eggs. They generally feed at night after spending the day time in the daft of a rock or sleep in the burrows. For protection it emits a foul smelling liquid from its anus.

Sigmund Freud was an outstanding psychologist or a scientist who studied the mind of people. He discovered psychoanalysis (seeing how the mind works) which was used for treating mentally ill people. He found out that most mental illness was caused by unhappy childhood experiences. His work gave reasoning for people’s behavior from children to criminals. He explained why people with healthy minds behaved in a certain way. He showed that people who behaved badly, like criminal weren’t evil but ill in a special kind of a way.
